Well, I've finally done it
I've cancelled my mobile internet service and now have regular home access. This means that I will no longer only be able to view non-java websites on a small 2" screen, and at a faster connection speed. However, it means that I won't be able to look up maps hen 'm lost in my car with my phone, oh well.

As a side note, pilonidal abscesses are painful.

So, what am I going to do with my newly gotten internet access? Probably not much, since little Joshua likes to play with the keyboard while I'm here :) I do hope to post more often though, so those that are interested can see whats going on in my life.

Also, it was cheaper to get a bundle with the internet/phone, and as a result my phone number has changed. If you're interested in my new phone number, e-mail me, DaDataCzar@gmail.com...

I'm getting old
According to the town census survey I got today, I was born on 10/18/1806... Yep, 1806. Where did they get that number from? Slightly different than 4/1/1984.

I don't have internet at my place yet, so thats why updates have been sparse

Well, as of September 29th, I've been a home-owner :)
Nice little house. Old, built in 1874, but very well maintained. 0.76 acres of uphill lawn to mow. 2-6 bedrooms depending how you want to count it, lets say 3 though...

P.O. Box 533
61 Summer Street
Thorndike (Palmer) MA, 01709

There's a Housewarming party on November 4, at 1300. My wife has more details, I just sort of go to work then sleep so don't know whats going on at my own place :)

But if you want to come, stop on by.

Pike, Exit 8
Take a left at the offramp to the light
Pass a Big Y on your left, and then a mile later there's a light, take a left there
Drive until Summer Street. There's also a sign for Pleasant Street Ends.

Then its the.. I think 3rd house on the right. Its a white house with a brick basement. 2 car garage. There's a newspaper box.

Well, my last update didn't have too many details. I'll be starting at Kollmorgen on the 19th. They make periscopes among other imaging devices. I'll be a "Systems Engineer - Entry Level". Systems engineering is basically designing a detailed outline of a system and then the mechanical, electrical, optical, software, etc engineers fill in some of the finer details. Their current systems engineers got to the position by being there for 25+ years and learnign things as they go. However they're trying a new progam where they bring in entry and mid level people to train them. So basically I'll have a mentor of this person who has been there a long time, and he'll retire and I'll take over his job or such.
There are 3 work-groups in the company. One works on traditional pericopes with the mast penetrating the hull. I'll work on the new periscopes which are digital with 5 different types of high resolution cameras crammed into the top and then electrically transfered to 2 monitors on the submarine. The third group works on stabilization and the other imaging products. Having 3 groups has allowed them to specialize and excel in areas. They can also balance loads by transfering from one group to the other and such when necessary. Overall I think that its a great job opprotunity, I just hope that I don't get fired in a week :) I recently signed the papers giving them authorization for a background check and all that fun, so if you get a call questioning me, please be nice. :p

And, since I've been playing with MSN's Virtual Earth, Before and After.

Train of thought:
I need a job that pays more money
I don't have experience, and nobody will give me experience since I don't have any
I could start my own business
What would I want to do?
Cheri likes books, could have a book store
But would need to buy the books, and that costs money
I don't see how I could make much of a profit
That is unless I printed my own books
I would need a printing press for that
Now where could I get a printing press? hmm....

AIM (to kill)
I set out to install AIM on my PDA. So I went to aim.com, and they wanted either $20 for the PDA version of the software or to have the messages count as text messages, which would cost me $10/month. So I looked around and found that you can download the same software from aim.co.uk for free, whoohoo! Silly AOL. So I downloaded the software and started chatting with friends. However IE and Picsel stopped working. I thought that this might be because connection settings were wrong, but nope, AIM still worked. Then I figured maybe AIM messed up the PDA so I uninstalled it, and I still couldn't browse webpages. After googling some more, it turns out that installing AIM currupts PocketPC and you need to reformatt, this is a "known issue". I would think that they would warn you about this before installing, oh well. So off to reformatt poor FooBar

Well, I finally went out and bought a PDA/cellphone. I've been wanting to for a while. Its a Samsung i730, and can connect to most wireless systems (Cell Phone, Bluetooth, 802.11b, Infrared). It actually sometimes gets a signal at my house, which I'm surprised at since most dedicated cell phones don't. I haven't had much time to play around with all of the features, but it includes things such as VPN software and using the IR for a TV remote. Overall, its a very cool device. Bit expensive though. But I figure average entertainment is $10/hr, so as long as I use it at least 14 minutes a day for the next 2 years It'll be worth it

Taxes are nice this year
I've been working for 5 calendar years now.

2001: I didn't start until September so didn't make enough money, so didn't pay anything in taxes
2002: I forgot to tell them to start paying taxes, so had to pay something like $1,300 at the end of the year
2003: Got back ~$150
2004: Accountants did really good job this year, and I owed less than $1 for both state and federal
2005: Not dependant of parents so can claim WPI, and have to dependants, get back ~40% of my take-home pay

I was expecting about half of that back, and was going to use that to pay for my class. However, now that I'll have some extra money, I'm going to finally get a cool toy that I've wanted for a while. I was originally planning on getting unlimited data and VoIP, since it cost less than unlimited data + cell phone plan, but Verizon has changed their agreement and prohibits VoIP now. So I'll just have the PDA part with wireless connection most places. So if you want to contact me, AIM would be better than calling.

Current Mood: chipper

Complex analysis
WPI's seven-week term? bah, thats too much time, lets do it in six! We had 1 class, where we went over that i is the square root of negative one (or in matrix form [[0,1][-1,0]]), and then the professor has to be away for a week. fun stuff :) especially for a course with "complex" in the title
